Title conferred
The title 'Isaimani Makutam' was conferred on noted musician Sanjay Subrahmanyan by C.R. Swaminathan President, Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore on 8th September at the 12th annual music festival of Rajalakshmi Fine Arts in Coimbatore. M. Krishnan (Managing Director of Sri Krishna Sweets) and T. Satish Kumar (Founder of Rajalakshmi Fine Arts) also participated.

Stamps on musicians released
President Pranab Mukherjee released on 2nd September 2014, a set of commemorative postage stamps on eight Indian classical musicians, calling them some of "the greatest music maestros of contemporary India".The stamps feature stalwarts in Indian classical music like Pandit Ravi Shankar, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, DK Pattammal, Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur, Gangubai Hangal, Pandit Kumar Gandharva, Ustad Vilayat Khan and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan.
"As we pay tribute to eight of the greatest music maestros of contemporary India, we celebrate their life and work and their matchless legacy. These eight maestros are, without a doubt, among the tallest luminaries in the history of world music. They have not only achieved personal perfection but have made extraordinary contributions, in their respective fields, to the development and evolution of the schools of music in which their talents were nurtured and honed,” the President said.
The set of eight stamps was released in the evening in various cities across the country in Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai and Visakhapatnam. T. Murthy, Chief Postmaster General, Tamilnadu Postal Circle, released the stamps album and the First Day Cover at the Brahma Gana Sabha in Chennai. It was received by art patron Dr. Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti, in the presence of Mervin Alexander, Postmaster General, Chennai.

New Office Bearers for Karnataka Fine Arts Council
Karnataka Fine Arts Council which is the consortium of 10 reputed Music sabhas of Bangalore (Ananya, Bharatiya Saamagaana Sabha, BTM Cultural Academy,
M A Narasimhachar Foundation, Nadasurabhi, Ranjani Fine Arts, SGBS Trust, Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira, Gayana Samaja and Vishesha Fine Arts),has elected G.V. Krishna Prasad as new Chairman of the Council. Aravind Brahmakal is the Honorary Secretary and Mysore Satish is the Honorary Treasurer.

Award for musicians
The Kalki Krishnamurthy Memorial Trust honoured vocalist Ramakrishnan Murthy and violinist Padma Shankar at a function organised on 9th September 2014. Dr.N. Kamakoti, Managing Director of City Union Bank presented the awards on the occasion of writer Kalki Krishnamurthy's birth anniversary celebrations.

Maestro Honoured
Visakha Music and Dance Academy presented the National Eminence Award and the title “Nada Vidya Bharati' to music maestro Madurai T N Seshagopalan at the music festival held at Kala Bharati auditorium in Visakapatnam on 9th August 2014. Sri Sadguru Sivananda Murthy gave away the award to Seshagopalan. He was also honoured with 'Swarna Kamalam', a lotus made of gold worth Rs 2 lakh and a citation along with a cash award of Rs 1 lakh. Academy founder- president CSN Raju was present.
Previous awardees include doyens of classical arts such as Sripada Pinakapani, Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna, Pandit Jasraj, Vempati Chinna Satyam, Amjad Ali Khan, Nedunuri Krishnamurthy and Lalgudi J Jayaraman, to name a few.

Pallavi Darbar
Carnatica Archival Centre in association with Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha presented its annual Pallavi Darbar at Mylapore Fine Arts Club, Chennai. The event was inaugurated by P S Narayanaswamy and a discussion on Pallavi, its structure and types was made by
P S Narayanaswamy, Suguna Purushothaman and
Dr.R S Jayalakshmi. Pallavi concerts were performed in the fest by by K.Bharath Sundar, Saketharaman, Serthalai Ranganatha Sharma, Ramakrishnamurthy, K.Gayathri, Sriranjani Santhanagopalan, Abhishek Raguram. A lec-dem on the art of Pallavi singing was presented by Gayathri Girish and Suguna Purushothaman demonstrated Avadhana tala pallavi.

Violin maestro honoured
Sri Krishna Gana Sabha conducted the Yagnaraman July Fest 2014 from 27th June to 6th July, featuring variety fare of music and dance programmes by eminent artists. N.Ravi, Editorin chief of The Hindu inaugurated and L.Sabaretnam and Dr.N.Ramani shared their memories about R.Yagnaraman. This was followed by a programme “Mystic Journey” by Sashwati Prabhu.
The valedictory function was presided by Isaignani Ilaiyaraja who conferred the SKGS Yagnaraman Living Legend Award on violin maestro Dr L Subramaniam, SKGS Yagnaraman Award of Excellence on S P Ramh, B S Purushothaman Uma Sathyanarayanan.

Legend honoured
Sri Kartik Rajagopal's 91st Birth Anniversary was observed recently and L. Sabaretnam Chairman, Kartik Fine Arts, presided and presented the Memorial Award to 'Iyakkunar Sigaram' Dr.K. Balachander. Kathadi Ramamurthy felicitated and it was followed by a discourse “Anbey Kadavul” by Priya Kishore.

Music Festival
Shri Purandaradaasar Trust celebrated Sri Purandaradasar Jeyanthi and Trinity Music Festival on 21st and 22nd June 2014 at Arkay Convention Centre,Chennai. Four thematic concerts by eminent artistes were featured .S.Chandrasekaran, Managing Trustee, welcomed the gathering. Before the commencement of the festival, an audio CD titled `Naadha Swaroopam', violin solo of Kovai S.Chandran, accompanied by Kumbakonam K.Ramakrishnan on the Mridangam and Tiruvarur K.Venkatesh on the Ghatam, was released by SAFE P.Ramabhadran and the first copy was received by G.Mohan, Managing Director, Aishwarya Events.
A concert based on Sri Purandaradasa's kritis were presented by Salem Dr.GayatriVenkatesan which was followed by rendering of Sri Thyagaraja krithis by K.R.Kannan. On 22nd June, the first concert of Sri Muthuswami Dikshitar krithis was performed by Chaitrra Sairam which was followed by the concluding concert of Sri Shyama Sastri kritis, presented by Vidya Kalyanaraman.

Cultural fete at Malaysia
With a view to have cultural exchange with foreign countries, the Tamilnadu Government through the Tamilnadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram organized a folk cultural fest at Malaysia from 17th to 26th June. It was presided by the Mandram's President, Deva and Secretary, PS Sachu. A host of dignitaries from Malaysia participated in the fest.
