Dr.Radha Bhaskar is a rare combination of a vocal musician, musicologist, teacher, journalist and cultural organizer.

Musician -

Dr. Radha is a senior disciple of Padma Bhooshan P.S.Narayanaswamy and has performed many concerts all over India. Important sabhas where Dr.Radha has performed include Krishna Gana Sabha, The Music Academy, Karthik Fine Arts, Brahma Gana Sabha, Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha, Narada Gana Sabha, Mylapore Fine arts, Bharat Kalachar, Saraswathi, Asthika Samajam, Gayana Samaj  & Sri Lalitha Kala Mandira (Bangalore), Shanmukhananda Sangeetha Sabha (Mumbai), Tamil Sangam (Delhi) etc.

She has, received several titles like Yuva Kala Bharathi, Sabha Bhairavi, Sangeetha Sudhamayi, Sangeetha Kalasevak, Sangita Sevamani, Acharya award, Ganamrutha Rathna, best vocalist award from Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Indian Fine Arts Society etc. She was conferred the “Sparkling Diamond Award” by the University Women's Association commemorating International Women's Day. Radha has given music programmes in all leading television channels like Sun TV, Jaya TV, Jaya Plus, Podhigai, Vijay TV, Kalaignar TV, Raj TV, SVBC TV etc.

Congregational Singing by 5000 Children -

Dr.Radha had the rare privilege of training and conducting a spectacular group singing programme by 5,000 school children from about 100 schools in October 2004 at the University Centenary auditorium, Chennai in the presence of the former President of India, His Excellency Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam.

She also received a special grant from the Ministry of Culture to conduct a mass group singing by children under theme “National Integration through music.”

Teacher -

Dr.Radha has been sharing her music knowledge and experience by conducting special Music Appreciation Programmes to enlighten rasikas about the nuances of Indian Classical music. This is a unique programme devised and pioneered by Dr.Radha and it focuses on educating rasikas and students about the greatness of Indian Music. So far, about 9,500 people have attended this course all over India. This program has envisaged great response and appreciation from all music lovers.

In 2010, Dr.Radha had the rare honour of being invited by the Embassy of India, Muscat to conduct a One Day Workshop on Music Appreciation and this was well attended by an international audience. Recently, she also conducted a music workshop in Singapore.

Dr.Radha has released the first ever DVD on Music Appreciation titled “Introduction to Music” and  CDs “Appreciating Varnam to Tillana” & “Raga Vaibhavam” for rasikas to elevate their knowledge about music.

Music Critic and Editor -

Dr.Radha had been a music critic for Indian Express for seven years (under the pen name Bharani) and contributed several analytical reviews and articles. She had the privilege of writing the main article in the Malayalam Manorama Yearbook on the subject  “The contribution of the Tamils to the growth of classical music.” She has also contributed valuable articles for several journals.

Radha is presently the Editor of the prestigious art magazine Samudhra (for music, dance, drama), which has carved a niche for itself in the fine arts field. This magazine with its noteworthy articles and interviews of eminent personalities in the art field has won wide acclaim and completed 125 issues successfully.

Cultural Organiser -

Dr.Radha has over fifteen years of experience as an organizer and administrator. She is the Treasurer of the unique cultural organization Mudhra, noted for its novel and purposeful programmes. Mudhra has achieved many milestones through its innovative and fresh approach to fine arts. It has not only conducted programmes of music and dance but also devised many unique concepts to encompass more people into the fold of fine arts and help them appreciate the arts better. These include workshops in music for rasikas as well as students, teaching music to Corporation School children, conducting music quiz in schools, seminars and panel discussions etc. Many eminent artists have participated in these sessions and expressed wide appreciation for these concepts.

For the past two years, Mudhra has been conducting National Conference on “Appreciating Indian Music” which has been supported by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India and it was a tremendous success.

Musicologist -

Radha holds a doctorate degree in music for her thesis- “Karnatic Music Concerts  an analytical study.” She was the recipient of the Junior Research Fellowship from UGC for five years to pursue her research.

Dr.Radha has organized many one day seminars on contemporary subjects in music. She has given many lecture demonstrations and also participated in several prestigious panel discussions all over India. Radha received a Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture for a research project on music.

Dr.Radha has participated in many panel discussions of AIR. She has given special talks on the December Music Festival of Chennai. She has interviewed many eminent people from various fields for the archive project of AIR and she herself has been interviewed for her accomplishment in the art field.

Other qualifications -

Dr.Radha has been an Expert Committee Member (Music) in the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

She has been a Member of the Board of Studies of Indian Music in the University of Madras and Annamalai University. She is also an Executive Committee Member of the Old Students Association of the Queen Mary's College, Chennai of which she is an alumnus.

She has been the Resource person and conducted refresher courses for the Fine Arts Department of Annamalai University and Bharathidasan Universityand University of Madras. She has also set examination papers for several B.A and M.A courses. Recently, she was invited by a music institution in Singapore to be examiner for their annual examination.

Radha has also been invited as chief guest to preside over many functions and arangetrams. In 1997, she was sponsored by the Rotary International as part of their Group Study Exchange Programme to visit Arizona, USA. She has given several illuminating talks on music in Rotary Clubs and Lions Club.

Radha has been featured in special television programmes like Thiru-Thirumadi, Jackpot's special Pongal Episode as a celebrity couple, Dial Jaya TV, Kalai Malar (Sun TV), NDTV Hindu and many more.
